The Rolling Stones are under 24-hour armed guard on their South American tour following the shooting of a worker at one of their gigs. The veteran rockers have taken extra precautions after a man was shot dead in botched attempt to steal drinks takings from their La Plata stadium show. The Mirror reports that a 55-year-old contractor was killed when three cars attempted to hijack a van transporting cash from alcohol sales after the concert. In the wake of the incident, the band have stepped up their security arrangements and will travel separately, escorted by armed bodyguards. A source told The Mirror: “Of course these things are all considered well in advance of a tour, and massive bands like The Rolling Stones are well aware of the risks posed by these places - so they take no chances. Wealthy personalities are always potential targets, but the band are kept safe and secure at all times by the best security personnel on the planet” They are next scheduled to perform in Brazil, Uruguay, Peru and Colombia. Earlier this week, Elton John accused The Rolling Stones of being "irrelevant" during an interview on a US radio station. The singer-songwriter said the band should return to making blues albums instead of chasing mainstream success. Meanwhile, Ronnie Wood was quoted in November 2015 as saying that work on a new Rolling Stones album was imminent. Bandmate Keith Richards previously said that the group would return to the studio and work on new music in April 2016, but Wood suggested work may have begun in December last year.

Martin Shkreli claims that he has been swindled out of $15m after attempting to buy the exclusive rights to Kanye West’s new album ‘The Life of Pablo’. The pharmaceutical CEO, who infamously purchased Wu-Tang Clan’s one-of-a-kind album ‘Once Upon A Time in Shaolin’ for $2m, initially offered West $10m to keep the album off the market before upping his bid to $15m on Saturday. Here is my initial offer for the album. @kanyewest Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to your response pic.twitter.com/opJ7mlfraK— Martin Shkreli (@MartinShkreli) February 11, 2016 Shkreli is now alleging that he was defrauded of the money by someone pretending to be from Kanye’s camp. “SOMEONE NAMED DAQUAN SAID HE WAS KANYES BOY AND I SIGND THE DEAL TO BUY PALBO AND SENT THE BITCOIN. Viola Beach’s record label Communion have issued a statement after the band were killed in a car accident yesterday (February 13). “Everyone here at Communion is in a state of total shock and sorrow, and our thoughts go out to the families and friends of Craig and the band,” write the label. It continues: “Viola Beach had only recently come into the Communion family, and had everything going for them – great songs, passion, talent, drive… everything that a band should have. To sit down with the band was to sit down with a group of guys whose band you wanted to be in, and to be in the presence of a band who knew just what it would take to make it.” The label also announced that they will be donating all proceeds made from the single to the band's families. The band’s four members, Kris Leonard, River Reeves, Tomas Lowe and Jack Dakin, and their manager Craig Tarry were killed on Saturday when their car plunged off a 80ft highway bridge into a canal. Swedish police said that the bridge over the Södertälje canal was closing after being opened to let a vessel sail through at the time of the fatal crash, the BBC reports. Viola Beach released their debut single 'Swings & Waterslides' in 2015 and were set to support Blossoms on their February and March UK and Ireland tour. They were due to fly out to Texas next month with an appearance at SXSW confirmed. Other festivals they were due to appear at through 2016 include The Great Escape, Liverpool Sound City, Bushstock, Latitude, The Secret Garden Party, Liverpool International Music Festival and T In The Park.

Drake and Win Butler led Team Canada to victory at last night’s NBA All-Star Celebrity Game. The annual basketball fixture saw a Canadian team, coached by the rapper, beat Team USA led by comedian Kevin Hart. Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler was awarded Most Valuable Player after scoring 15 points and grabbing 14 rebounds during the game. It’s the second year in a row in which Butler has played on the winning side. Butler was cut off during his victory speech after talking about the US elections and the Canadian health care system. “I just wanna say it's an election year in the U.S., and the U.S. has a lot it can learn from Canada— health care, taking care of people,” he said. Win's brother, Will Butler, later tweeted about the incident, writing: "I feel like when Team Canada beats Team USA they should be able to taunt the losers about universal health care". Drake, never missing an opportunity to make a joke at Meek Mill’s expense, alluded to his beef with the Philadelphia rapper before the game by telling Hart that it’s been ‘rough year for his city’. Hart is also from Philadelphia. The Toronto rapper was also awarded the keys to his home town by Mayor John Tory in a ceremony prior to the game.

The Flaming Lips have paid tribute to David Bowie by covering a number of his songs during a concert. The Oklahoma rock band performed ‘Space Oddity’, ‘Fame’, ‘Ziggy Stardust’, ‘Golden Years’, ‘Life on Mars’, ‘Five Years’, ‘The Man Who Sold the World’ and Ashes to Ashes’ last night during their show at Belly Up Ashen. It’s not the first time that the Lips have covered Bowie, having performed ‘Heroes’ on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon back in 2013. The late musician’s songs have also been a staple of the band’s sets since the 90s. In a 2012 interview, Bowie listed The Flaming Lips as one of a number of American bands that he admires (he mentions the band at the 8-minute mark in the below clip). A number of musicians are due to perform tributes to Bowie later this month. Lady Gaga said she will cover “at least three or four” David Bowie songs at this year’s Grammy awards ceremony, due to take place on Monday night. A similar tribute is also planned for this year’s BRIT Awards with Damon Albarn, Bono, Noel Gallagher, Adele and Coldplay all rumoured to be taking part.
